The Graig100 goes from strength to strength. Last year 120 riders and supporters raised over £70,000 and this year we have set ourselves the challenge to exceed £100,000. Listening to the overwhelmingly positive feedback we have fine-tuned the event and we have gone
“green” while seeking to maintain its core appeal. We have designed and planned this year’s event
with sustainability very much in our minds and are pleased to advise it will be a carbon-neutral event – a shipping industry first.
It will all take place in one day; Saturday 3rd September. Riders will set off in waves from late
morning riding up into the Graigwen mountain and into the Welsh hills complemented by stunning
scenery before returning to Sophia Gardens to celebrate at the Brewhouse & Kitchen. There are two routes; one more challenging for more experienced riders and the other not quite as challenging and ridden as a “pod”. Don’t worry, as both include the wonderful Graigwen hill aka “The Wall” with its famous “Welsh Cake” stop at the top for a breather before continuing with the ride.
Huge cheers await you as you are welcomed back late afternoon at Brewhouse & Kitchen before a
quick turn around and it’s a Gala Dinner at the iconic Angel Hotel, 3-course dinner, after dinner
speeches, awards, dancing and networking fun! See you all in September!
ORDER OF PLAY FOR SATURDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER 2022
11:00AM RIDE
Riders should make their way to Cardiff for 11:00am meet at Brewhouse & Kitchen Pub. We are
recommending and encouraging all riders to arrive with bike by train to Cardiff Central Station, a short (0.8 mile) cycle to drop off your bags at The Angel Hotel before joining us at the start at the Brewhouse & Kitchen nearby (0.2 mile). There will be staggered start with the aim the ride concluding between 4/5PM for some post ride drinks & food before changing for the Gala Dinner at The Angel Hotel.
6:30PM DRINKS RECEPTION | 7:15PM AWARDS CEREMONY | 7:30PM GALA DINNER
A 3-course dinner in the iconic Angel Hotel opposite the Millennium Stadium, home of Welsh rugby
with guest after-dinner speaker, Phil Steele, award ceremony, dancing and carriages whenever you would like to go to bed! A great opportunity to network with fellow industry colleagues and rub shoulders with the movers and shakers in shipping and enjoy the nightlife in Cardiff, which is widely considered as one of the UK’s liveliest towns!
The plan is the same as last year to ensure we can accommodate all levels of competency, we have
decided to create two cycle routes of different degrees of challenge - something for every age and
ability! All routes start and finish at The Brewhouse and Kitchen, Sophia Gardens, Cardiff and will go off in waves so all riders arrive back around the same time!
We have chosen this year to extend the charity support to one further charity, MIND – mental health and well-being. We believe this brings a balanced blend of areas of society we all feel passionate about and care for. All Corporate Sponsor monies raised, after event costs, will be shared
equally between the following 3 charities.
Day and night for 365 days per year, the Mission is on call providing help for seafarers in over 200 ports around the world.
Providing much needed support to the 1.5 million seafarers who are risking their lives every day to support our global economy & prosperity. Find out more here.
Velindre, the Hospital of Hope, has been providing specialist treatment and supportive care to cancer patients in Wales for over 60 years.
Money raised funds ground breaking research and clinical trials, cutting edge treatments, specialist nurses, support services, therapies, equipment and so much more which are above those provided by the NHS – having a massive impact on patients and their families. Find out more here.
Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. But hundreds of thousands of people are still struggling.
MIND are one of the UK's leading providers of mental health services. MIND provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem and campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

‘’What a way to spend a weekend in Cardiff. Magnificent venue, worthy charities, eminent speakers and a buzz of excitement on every table. Wonderful to see so many cyclists taking on the sun soaked valleys and beautiful scenery on the Graig 100 course. Many thanks to Graig Shipping for a weekend full of entertainment and warmest congratulations for a staggering achievement in fund raising.‘’

“With a stunning bike route and even better company, every pedal stroke of this event felt like an absolute privilege. Knowing that everyone’s efforts were raising money for seafarers and cancer sufferers made a special weekend even more memorable. I loved every minute.”
“It was a fantastic chance to catch up with industry friends and colleagues, and raise some money for two very worthwhile causes. Whilst we all enjoyed the beautiful Welsh countryside, it was an important reminder of the ongoing challenges facing our seafaring colleagues away from the green, green grass of home, as well as the important contribution of the Mission to Seafarers in offering a caring hand and friendly face at ports round the globe”.
"An excellent event for two very important charities. Enjoyable cycle with lots of opportunities to network with people from across the shipping community. Many thanks to Graig/Idwal for organising, looking forward to the next one!"
“It was a privilege to take part in such a well organised event raising funds for two fantastic charities; a testament to the strong community spirit of the shipping industry.”
"A fantastically organised event for two outstanding charities all brought together by an excess of Mamils and some utterly horrible hills. Roll on 2022!"
“An amazing amalgamation of challenge, charity, and chat - the cycling was certainly a challenge at each level; the two charities we supported are vitally important to their communities; and it was amazing to be at an in-person shipping event again after 18 months. Well done Graig Shipping!”
